How To: Rug Finishing Instructions

After hooking the entire rug, vacuum lightly and now check for any corrections that may need to be made. If necessary, do so now! Lay finished rug on a sheet or towel with the wrong side up and cover with a damp towel. Press it lightly with a dry iron (do not rub) When pressed, it should now lay flat. If you notice uneven areas along the edge, rehook them now before finishing the edges.

We suggest all rugs be bound with a 1 ¼ inch cotton binding tape. Hand stitch the tape right up to the edge of the rug. Miter the tape and the backing at the corners. Cut away the excess backing so the raw edge is under the tape. Then finally, sew the inner edge of the tape between loops in the back of the hooked portion to cover the raw edge of backing.

NOW – most importantly – add a label on to the back of the rug. We suggest you include you name and the date and any other important information.
